Whilst we are heavily focused on our impression of the French army during the #RevWar, this is not to suggest that we are only a military group! We have a growing range of civilian impressions – the “Voices of Williamburg” – reflecting the interactions between soldats of le Gatinois and the Virginian population they lived alongside during the Yorktown Campaign.

Here we see a lady of the “middling sort” – well-to-do enough to afford a good-quality bedgown (with coloured lining) and even her own spectacles, but she must still work to support herself! Her shop stocks a variety of warm beverages and foodstuffs, including “hot” chocolate, and is a mainstay of our camp impression.

It is true that French soldats did not often interact with the local population themselves but, as interpreters, it is essential that we tell *all* stories of this fascinating period. And if you wish to join our civilian impression yourself then feel free to drop us a message, or email us: grenadiersdugatinois@gmail.com
